The Spartan, Master Chief, was working with this robot called the monitor and his sentinels to put the Intel, a T shaped key into the main core of Halo in order to, or so he thought to activate halo and kill the flood, He was wrong. The “key” turns on a powerful weapon that kills all sentient species in the galaxy. Cortana told him that they would die and they escaped. They then attacked the three main machines that powered the weapon. Cortana used his shield as a EMP and they took out the three generators, the Master Chief fought lots and lots of the covenant, and the Flood. Usually when they were fighting each other the flood won.
